The more damage a player takes, the less health they can regenerate. The health bar at the top of the screen regenerates slowly as time progresses. By pressing the L2 button again while in this mode, the character will be drained of all their remaining ignition gauge and utilize their ignition attack which is an immensely powerful move and the strongest a character has. Once activated, the gauge will slowly drain. The gauge can be filled by dealing damage to enemies. Ignition lights the edges of the screen on fire and triples the power of a character's moves. L2 activates the ignition gauge which sits at the left of the screen. R2 performs a dash maneuver which can be held for a constant dash. While blocking, the player can use the left analog stick to use Shunpo or Sonído to dodge. L1 is used to lock onto an opponent and R1 blocks. These attacks are different depending on if the character is on the ground or in the air. Specials are strong moves that consume most if not all the pressure bar. The circle button performs special attacks. Some characters have different spirit attacks based on whether they are on the ground or in the air.

The triangle button performs spirit attacks which consume spiritual pressure from the pressure bar which sits below the health bar at the top of the screen. Melee is performed through the square button which can be utilized for combos. The X button performs a jump and pressing it again while in air performs a second jump. Chapters blur together, gloss over massive amounts of material, and don't do much besides contextualize the mayhem. Soul Points give combat purpose, and you're rewarded for keeping up a combo with a Soul Points multiplier. With enough Soul Points you can enhance your character and learn new techniques thanks to a stylish board similar to the Sphere Grid in Final Fantasy X (Anybody?). Not only is it super fun to collect things, but Soul Points act as your currency for purchasing character upgrades. They're green, they glow, and you don't even have to run around to pick them up - they come to you when you defeat an enemy or destroy an object in the environment. Yes, Soul Points are the sweet, sweet candy of Bleach: Soul Resurreccion. It's an engaging system and it facilitates the process of collecting Soul Points. You'll need to keep your guard up at the right times, dash away from danger, and even counter attacks when you have access to the ability. But beware, your enemies do fight back - especially at higher difficulty levels. It's not the most complex battle system out there, but Bleach: Soul Resurreccion gives you lots to do in the heat of combat. At the end of the basic combo, I launched my opponent up into the air, unleashed a few more basic attacks, and finished with a Super Move. With Ichigo I started by launching a few Spirit Attacks - which send arcs of energy tearing across the screen - and then transitioned into a basic combo. The subtleties of combat were clear to me after I spent a while experimenting with different techniques. Each character also has a bunch of special attacks that can be mixed into normal combos. This gives you an incentive to do more than just pummel the same button for hours. With good timing, you can power up a normal combo. The combat initially looks easy because most basic combos can be executed by mashing the Square button. I had fun with Soul Resurreccion for plenty of reasons.
